Auditions

When are auditions? What are they like?

We hold auditions every semester, usually the first Saturday after classes start! You do not need to prepare anything in advance. The audition includes a technical warm-up in center, across-the-floor sequences and brief piece (~45 seconds) choreographed and taught by a member of our exec board. You will perform the piece in small groups. We offer a supplemental ballet audition following the main audition. We also hold a separate tap audition. Dancers must complete the tap audition if they wish to tap in the company. Dancers may elect to audition to be a tap-only member of the company.

Auditions are regarded as "closed world," meaning that we focus solely on the skills, technique, choreography retention, and performance you display in the audition.

You will hear back from us 1.5-2 hours following the audition. Be sure to keep your whole day clear because, if accepted, you will be expected to attend a company meeting in the afternoon!

What should I wear to the audition?

Wear whatever is comfortable for you. We recommend clothes that won't restrict your movement or hide your alignment. You're welcome to wear jazz shoes/turners/socks or do the audition barefoot.
